I learned the following from the call:
Hiring Employees--
- The value of hiring based on "characteristics and values" first and "skill set" second.
- Having a culture statement to express the business values.
- Having a clear written job description.
- Finding out what motivates the potential employee and whether that fits with your environment.
- That it is acceptable and important to test people before hiring.
- That we can go to your website www.bobbipalmer.com to get more info about questions to ask ourself before interviewing and questions we can't ask in an interview.
Team Building--
- The importance of defining the team.
- That people want to feel that they are treated fairly, have an opportunity to achieve, and that they feel part of the team.
- That they are recognized for their contributions.
- That money isn't the only motivator.
- The importance of communication.

Once again, thanks Bobbi!

Thank you Rhonda and Bobbi for such an insightful telephone conference. I was impressed with how much information could be shared in such a short call. I had several "A-Ha!" moment; for instance, hiring someone because we could be great friends and I'd enjoy having social time with them might not always be the best fit for the job. That's a tough one. I look forward to writing my Culture Statement and job descriptions. Also, Rhonda I appreciate your openness to share these calls with your clients. I like the way you directed questions and summarized the information in this newsletter. Make it Great in 2008!!!
